Essaouira
Essaouira Mogador Souira
Old Portuguese port for exchange since V
century before j.c, Essaouira is full of cultures with a mix of
Arab, Berber, Jews and Gnaoua populations.
Essaouira : town of the exceptions
The culture and the traditions of Essaouira have nothing in
common with the other parts of the country. Different ethnies and
religions live here in peace, and you can listen some traditional
Gnaoua music which originates from this region.
All year long, you can enjoy festivities as well as concerts
from different musical origins, the Gnaoua being predominant in the
city.
You can also enjoy beautifull painting galeries all over the
medina as well as traditional crafts, the work of thuyas wood being
the specialty of Essaouira.
The argan tree produces seeds leading to the production of argan
oil that you can use for the food as well as for cosmetic products.
This oil is one of the most expensive oil in the world and is only
made in the region of Essaouira, the argan tree can not grow
somewhere else.
No doubts that you will encounter past and present in the medina
and certainly enjoy all the charms relative to the mix of cultures
and traditions.
